You need to know that confidence is more than a pretty logo (and what it actually is all about)
What’s more important than your logo?
I stand behind this wholeheartedly. So let me share why.
Overall, I believe that we’ve placed far too much value on a logo for far too long a time and, as a result, we often think that a logo is ‘branding’. We put so much weight on a flat, element of graphic design, and allowed it to take on responsibilities it was never supposed to handle.
This doesn’t mean I don’t believe they’re important ( 👋 brand designer over here!) . On the contrary — giving your brand a face, a visual language all of its own is invaluable.
It’s just not what it’s all about.
Why does this even matter so much?
Because no one will stumble across any of your marketing efforts or your website or an IG post or a printed flyer or your package and just see and experience your logo.
Because we find ourselves living in, and creating, an age where stories and connection are becoming important again (hallelujah!).
Because, taking the time to know your audience well, truly intimately, means you can serve them better, meet them where they are and give them what they need. You can also anticipate any concerns about your product or service they may have, or what reasons they have for not being ready to do business with you. This gives you the opportunity to educate them, offer up all the proof that you’re amazing (you are) and then take them on a delightful journey of discovery through your brand.
Because knowing exactly who you are and what you stand for means you can speak boldly and share proudly. Your voice deserves to be heard because you’ve got beautiful things to make and do and share with your people.
Because at the end of the day, having a superficial confidence in a logo which is beautiful (of course it can be!) won’t actually help your business grow.
It won’t, at all, help you turn your passion into profit.
But here’s what will.
Being confident in your brand voice so that you can use it (often, please) to connect with the right kinds of people. Your people. Knowing exactly what to say. How to say it. What verbiage to use. What keywords they’re drawn to.
Being confident in why your business is important to you. So that the next time you are having a shitty day (week? 😬) and you honestly could pack it all up for all the anxiety it’s managed to induce to become a professional wine-taster (please tell me that’s a thing?). So that then, you can know in your heart why you wouldn’t choose anything else. You can be confident in your decision to not burn it to the ground because you understand, wholeheartedly, that you’re passionate about it because *your reason here*.
Being confident in what makes you different means that you can embody #communityovercompetition because you’re not trying to be, or beat, your peers. You understand that you have something so unique, a combination of skills and process and service and delivery so very you, that it can’t be found anywhere else. Not even your competition.
Being confident in your brand experience means that you feel comfortable and proud to send a potential customer or client to your website. You feel excited about hitting publish on that blog post and sending the images to Pinterest. You can’t wait for someone to download your free workbook because you’re super jazzed about how well it conveys your message. You look forward to getting the photos from your product shoot because you know your packaging is so on point for your customers and you can’t wait for them to be able to experience it.
Being confident in your brand means that every facet is working in harmony to help you realise the biggest vision and dreams you have for your business. It means there is so much more than a logo. It means that you’ve invested yourself wholly into the process of making this a thriving and financial success for yourself.
It means that it’s built on a solid foundation of intimate knowing and understanding.
A brand that you can be confident in. Not just a logo. A whole, harmonious, beautiful, styled, strategic brand.
A brand that’s so incredibly you and so very much tailored for them.
They deserve to experience this kind of brand. You deserve to have one.
